Our Campus

Central Park School for Children is located  in the heart of historic Downtown Durham.

The multi-building campus and outdoor facilities are situated across three city blocks and connected with two city parks. Our campus is designed to empower students’ engaged learning, inspire creativity and build healthy relationships amongst our community members and the outdoor world.

Connected to Old North Durham Park, Ellerbe Creek and Durham Central Park, CPSC is rooted in our human and natural environments. Classrooms are designed to take advantage of students’ need to move, design their own learning, play and be outside; each campus has open access to outdoor classrooms and gardens.

Inspiring Student Creativity

CPSC combines the best of Progressive Education to inspire student creativity with New Urbanism design that unleashes human connection, health and well-being in city design. In July 2024, our learning campus will be unified on one city block as we will move into the current TROSA and former North Durham Graded School Building. This move will better position us to design the most inspiring campus for our students to discover a joy for learning that lasts a lifetime. Our magical power as a K-8 learning community is in our daily priority to elevate the whole child through play and project based learning in a child-centered community, using the best research to guide our decisions.
